The Campus History Series is a collaboration between the NC State University Libraries and the Alumni Association. Using archival footage curated around a specific subject, each event will do a deep dive into a topic or event that’s important to our campus history. Join us for a walk down memory lane!

The History of Basketball at NC State

Communication strategist Tim Peeler and photographer Roger Winstead, both of University Communications and Marketing, recounted the traditions and innovations that shaped Wolfpack basketball, as well as the history and customs of college basketball. This program was originally held on February 3, 2021.

Asian and Asian American History at NC State

In celebration of Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Heritage Month, Victor Betts of NC State University Libraries showed and discussed archival materials about the history of Asian and Asian American students, faculty and staff at NC State. This program was originally held on March 31, 2021.

Technician 100 Years Panel Discussion

A century after its founding, NC State’s oldest student newspaper is still going strong, providing valuable experiences for students and innovation for a new era. Students and alumni who’ve worked for Technician gathered to learn more about the last 100 years of the paper, what challenges student media faces today and where it might be headed in the future. This program was originally held on April 21, 2021.

History of NC State Football

This virtual program celebrated the highs and lows of Wolfpack football, led by Tim Peeler, communication strategist in University Communications and Marketing. This program was originally held on Sept. 2, 2021.

Architecture Tour

Architects from Clark Nexsen led participants through a virtual tour of NC State’s campus architecture. Architects Don Kranbuehl, Shann Rushing and Clymer Cease, all of whom helped design buildings on campus, discussed their work and the buildings that make NC State’s campus extraordinary in this virtual event. This program was originally held on Oct. 6, 2021.

History of Centennial Campus

NC State’s Centennial Campus is one of the premier research parks in North America. The NC State University Libraries and Alumni Association partnered to explore how this research park became part of NC State’s campus and its impact on the NC State community and the state of North Carolina. This program was originally held on Nov. 16, 2021.

History of the Gregg Museum

The NC State University Libraries and Alumni Association partnered with the Gregg Museum of Art & Design to present a program that explored the museum’s history. Christina Wytko Marchington, who educational programs and communications coordinator at the museum, discussed the museum’s history, collections and impact on NC State. This program was originally held on Feb. 16, 2022.

History of Women’s Sports at NC State

Tim Peeler of NC State Communications and guest speaker Nora Lynn Finch, ACC administrator and pioneer in women’s athletics, explored the history of female athletics at NC State University. We heard about the athletes, coaches, and administrators that created NC State’s formidable women’s athletic program. This program was originally held on Mar. 16, 2022.

Red Wolf Conservation

Red wolves are a critically endangered species, so much so that the only ones left in the wild are in North Carolina. Dr. Tara Harrison, associate professor of Zoo and Exotic Animal Medicine and manager of the NC State Red Wolf Conservation Program, joined us for a virtual talk to share more about the College of Veterinary Medicine’s history and involvement in the conservation program in North Carolina. This program was originally held on Oct. 12, 2022.

Women’s History at NC State

This virtual program from the creators of the upcoming D.H. Hill Jr. Library exhibit Dare and Do, explored and celebrated the rich history of Wolfpack women. We explored how women’s history ties into NC State’s history and learned about the female trailblazers that made the university what it is today. We discovered the communities created that support, uplift and open doors for future women to go even further. This program was originally held on Dec. 7, 2022.
