About Dr. Chang S. (CS) Nam

Dr. Chang S. (CS) Nam is a Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at North Carolina State University. He also holds associated faculty appointments in the UNC/NCSU Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Department of Psychology. A fellow of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES), Dr. Nam is a recognized leader in the fields of human factors, ergonomics, and human-computer interaction (HCI). He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Brain-Computer Interfaces, further highlighting his influence in this cutting-edge research area.

Dr. Nam has received numerous accolades throughout his career, including the NSF CAREER Award (2010), Outstanding Researcher Award (2010-2011), and Best Teacher Award (2010-2011). His achievements also include the prestigious 2018 U.S. Air Force Summer Faculty Fellowship Program Award and the 2019 Leland S. Kollmorgen Spirit of Innovation Award from the HFES Augmented Cognition Technical Group. These honors underscore his commitment to advancing both research and education in his field.

Research and Contributions

Dr. Nam’s teaching and research focus on human factors and ergonomics engineering to enhance human-centered technologies. His work spans a variety of areas, including brain-computer interfaces, neurorehabilitation, haptic-user interaction, neuroergonomics, and adaptive intelligent human-computer interaction. By integrating industrial and systems engineering with psychology and biomedical engineering, Dr. Nam develops innovative solutions for real-world challenges.

Dr. Nam is also the lead editor of Brain-Computer Interfaces Handbook: Technological and Theoretical Advances, a foundational text in the field.
