This event will take place on November 18, 2025, during the <a href=\"https:\/\/ieee-itsc.org\/2025\/\">IEEE ITSC 2025 Conference<\/a>. As a result, it helps improve safety, efficiency, and user trust. This workshop will explore many sides of HCAI in transportation. It will cover road, rail, air, and sea travel, as well as shipping and delivery networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Main Discussion Topics<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Trust and Transparency:<\/strong>&nbsp;First, we will look at how to make AI systems more understandable and predictable. This matters in transportation, where decisions happen fast and affect safety. Moreover, clear AI systems help users feel confident and informed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Resilience and Safety:<\/strong>&nbsp;Next, we will discuss how AI can adjust to changing situations. At the same time, it must support human workers to keep operations safe and steady.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Human-AI Collaboration:<\/strong>&nbsp;Then, we will explore how AI and people can work better together. By building smart tools and interfaces, we can combine the strengths of both. This helps teams make better and faster decisions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ethical and Legal Considerations:<\/strong>&nbsp;Also, AI brings up important questions about fairness, privacy, and rules. We must handle bias, protect data, and follow laws to use AI responsibly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Workshop Goals<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To support these goals, we invite experts from both industry and universities. They come from fields like AI, engineering, psychology, and more. Together, they will share ideas, solve problems, and shape the future of AI in transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Program<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Section 1<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Invited Talks (1.5 &#8211; 2 hours)<\/strong>: Each speaker will be given 20 minutes. Four speakers have confirmed to attend, and more speakers will be invited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Jing Chen, Associate Professor (Psychological Sciences) at Rice University, USA\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Presentation Title: Trust, Vigilance, and Risk Communication in Human-AI Collaboration for Transportation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Harshal Shah, Senior Product Manager (Voice Services) at General Motors, USA\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Presentation Title: The Role of AI in Redefining Voice Technology for Human-Centered Transportation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Xiaomei Tan, Assistant Professor (Human Factors) at Sichuan University, China\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Presentation Title: Why Does My Car Behave Like This? Understanding Driver Intervention in Response to Automated Maneuvers for Obscured Hazards in a V2X Environment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prashant Vajpayee, Senior Product Manager (Data, Integration, &amp; AI) at Salesforce, USA\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Presentation Title: Edge Intelligence and Cyber Risk in Transportation 5.0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Section 2<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Call for Presentation (1 to 1.5 hours):<\/strong> The workshop will issue a call for submissions for presentations. Authors who have published papers (or submitted to ITSC 2025) in relevant areas are encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to authors with publications in IEEE ITS Society journals and conferences. Interested authors should submit their published papers to the workshop organizers, who will review the submissions and select up to six presenters.
