ISE partners with Community Care of North Carolina to improve the Medicaid system in our state<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

At their annual meeting today, Community Care of North Carolina (CCNC) announced a research partnership with the ISE Department. Together they will work to streamline care processes to control Medicaid costs while raising the quality of care delivered. As part of the announcement, ISE Department Head Paul Cohen<\/strong> and Professor Maria Mayorga<\/strong> spoke with meeting attendees about ISE plans to use advanced analytics and modeling to improve efficiencies, lower operating costs and improve health outcomes.<\/p>\n

\n\"Improving\n<\/div>\n

For almost 10 years, ISE has partnered with the healthcare community through its Health Systems Engineering (HSE) program. The program uses innovative tools for clinical operations and supports high quality, accessible healthcare. \u201cOur students and faculty partner with organizations to solve real world problems,\u201d Dr. Cohen explained. \u201cOur health systems engineers optimize decision making with state-of-the-art modeling, resulting in measurable improvements to service and value.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHSE brings invaluable expertise in healthcare delivery over the entire patient care cycle,\u201d said L. Allen Dobson, Jr., MD, CEO of CCNC. \u201cWe already work with them in bringing LEAN principles to our clinical operations. With ISE, we will explore opportunities to reduce costs and get more value for the state\u2019s Medicaid dollar.\u201d

CCNC\u2019s ongoing effort to control North Carolina\u2019s Medicaid costs has been extremely successful. An independent study estimated that CCNC\u2019s unique medical home model helped North Carolina avoid almost $1 billion in costs over a four-year period. CCNC\u2019s success has caught the eye of health care policymakers across the country who plan to use the model in other states.<\/p>\n
