Web Publishing Standard Tier

If you're a campus unit or faculty member, we offer a premium service to meet your needs.

The standard (or paid) tier of Web Publishing is designed for websites that are officially representative of the University, one of it’s units, or one of it’s faculty members. This tier is only available to faculty and staff who submit a request form.

When you’re using the standard tier of Web Publishing, you get:

  • Full control over your WordPress website, including…
    • the ability to add non-NCSU editors to your site,
    • access to request a review of new themes and plugins,
  • The ability to purchase the premium version of the NC State Theme.
  • Use of any domain name or subdomain (subject to policy).
  • Direct support from OIT and University Communications.

Billing

Currently, Web Publishing’s standard tier costs $337 / year, and includes hosting, software updates, and maintenance.

When you request your site, you’ll be asked to provide your unit’s OUC (Organization Unit Code) and a Project ID or Account Number that we will bill the service to. Please note that, unfortunately, we cannot accept Ledger 5 funds for Web Publishing.

Each year, you’ll receive an invoice with all of the services that your unit is getting from the Office of Information Technology, including Web Publishing. The payment will be processed via interdepartmental transfer.

Your service will be prorated for the first year at a rate of $27 per month.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Web Publishing service is offered by the Office of Information Technology, while the NC State Theme is maintained by University Communications.

University Communications offers a free version of the theme to all of campus for brand compliance purposes. The premium version of the theme has additional features for sites which require more marketing support. If you are interested in purchasing the premium version of the NC State Theme, please contact University Communications.

Your request will be reviewed against these criteria:

  • whether the plugin or theme useful for campus,
  • whether the plugin or theme is regularly updated,
  • whether the plugin or theme has a history of security issues,
  • whether the plugin or theme is accessible for all users (to WCAG 2.2 standards), and
  • whether the plugin or theme is paid or has any other dependencies.

Additionally, you will only be permitted to use a non-standard theme if your unit is exempt from University branding requirements.

We suggest that you review our full Code Review Standards before making a request.

There may be additional fees related to your plugin request, and we suggest that you review your Web Publishing Service Level Agreement. We will not charge you without giving you notice, however.
