Bio

Ashton Sumpter is from Lumberton, North Carolina, and majors in industrial and systems engineering at NC State. His passion for ISE stems from childhood experiences with natural disasters. As a result, those events inspired him to pursue a career optimizing systems for disaster response and healthcare.

Beyond academics, Sumpter actively contributes to the ISE community. For instance, he serves as an ISE Ambassador and sits on the Institute of Industrial Engineers board. Additionally, he is a National Society of Black Engineers member and participates in the Goodnight Scholarship program. Moreover, he gained research experience working in the Center for Additive Manufacturing and Logistics lab.

Why ISE?

Through ISE, Ashton Sumpter blends engineering principles with real-world problem-solving. He focuses on creating more efficient and resilient systems. In particular, he enjoys using data analysis and process improvement to strengthen healthcare responses during emergencies and natural disasters.

Sumpter welcomes questions about his experiences. Ultimately, he hopes to encourage others to explore the diverse opportunities within ISE.
