With study abroad, you can experience new places and cultures while earning credits toward your degree. In addition, you can meet people from around the world and build lasting friendships. As a result, you gain a broader global perspective.
Moreover, study abroad helps you develop valuable skills such as intercultural communication, foreign language ability, adaptability and problem solving. Therefore, you can strengthen both your academic experience and your future career opportunities. Furthermore, you can increase your independence and confidence as you navigate new environments, which prepares you to adapt quickly and succeed in diverse professional settings today.
While abroad:
- You can explain how engineering elements communicate across cultures.
- In addition, you can understand how cultures may seem similar on the surface but differ in deeper ways. As a result, you can work more effectively with in country partners.
- Moreover, you can identify diverse characteristics of learners in different environments.
- Also, you can recognize the skills that students in Rwanda have and compare them with your own experiences.
- Furthermore, you can understand cultural influences in Rwanda that have shaped the country’s progress.
- In addition, you can examine how engineering connects to eco tourism and how it influences populations in developing countries.
- Finally, you can interpret how past viewpoints from Global North countries toward Global South countries can be misleading. As a result, you can better understand how mutual benefit can support both groups.
This opportunity is available to Technology, Engineering and Design Education Majors and all CED Graduate Students. Other CED majors can apply on an exception basis.

Program Search
Course Approval for Study Abroad
The following list outlines the steps you need to take to receive approval for courses taken at another institution while you study abroad.
- First, you determine which courses you need for your academic plan
- Next, you meet with the Study Abroad Office to choose a program location that fits your goals.
- Next, do your courses appear in the Transfer Credit Database?
Yes
- Complete the Study Abroad Course Approval Form. After that, you submit it to the appropriate personnel listed on the form.
- If the course is a GEP, you should email Brian Koehler at bdkoehle@ncsu.edu.
- If the course is a major or technical elective, you should email Kanton Reynolds at ktreyno2@ncsu.edu.
- Finally, you check your Navigate profile to find your course approval.
No
- Complete the ISE Course Substitution Form. In addition, please attach the syllabus in English. After that, you submit the form for approval.
- Once approved, you should check your Navigate profile to confirm the approval. In addition, you update your course substitution if needed.
- Complete the Study Abroad Course Approval Form. After that, you submit it to the appropriate personnel listed on the form.
- If the course is a GEP, you should email Brian Koehler at bdkoehle@ncsu.edu.
- If the course is a major or technical elective, you should email Kanton Reynolds at ktreyno2@ncsu.edu.
- Finally, you check your Navigate profile to find your course approval.
