The Minor in Industrial Engineering gives you a strong introduction to the field. It is designed for undergraduate engineering students and science majors outside industrial engineering. As a result, you can gain the fundamentals needed for advanced study or related careers.
Through this minor, you follow a structured program that builds core knowledge in industrial engineering. In addition, you develop skills that many industrial engineers use across industries. Therefore, you gain practical tools that support problem solving and system improvement.
The program also allows you to explore a specific area of interest in greater depth. By combining broad fundamentals with focused study, you build a balanced understanding of the discipline. Consequently, you strengthen your preparation for graduate study or professional opportunities in industrial engineering.
Minor in Industrial Engineering Requirements
- Complete at least 15 credit hours of ISE designated courses.
- You must complete 6 credit hours of required courses and 9 credit hours of elective courses.
- You must earn a grade of C minus or higher in all courses.

- ISE 311 Engineering Economic Analysis (3 credit hours)
- ISE 4XX Any 400-level ISE course (3 credit hours)

Admissions and Certification of Minor
You should contact the Undergraduate Services Coordinator for admission to and certification of the Minor in Industrial Engineering. The contact information appears below for your reference. As a result, you can receive guidance on requirements and application steps.
You must complete the minor no later than the semester in which you expect to graduate. Therefore, plan your coursework early to stay on track. In addition, complete the certification paperwork during the registration period of your final semester at NC State. By meeting these deadlines, you can ensure the minor appears on your academic record.
