NC State’s Industrial Engineering Program offers three degree options: Master of Industrial Engineering (MIE), Master of Science in Industrial Engineering (MSIE) and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering (Ph.D.). The MIE is offered both on-campus and online, but which one is right for you? Each option provides an excellent educational experience with many benefits. Therefore, before choosing a program, you should consider which method best suits your learning style and personality.

Master of Industrial Engineering

The Master of Industrial Engineering (MIE) is a professional degree that prepares you for careers in industry, government or consulting. As a result, you can build practical skills that employers value.
This terminal degree works well if you are self-supported, serving in the military part-time, or participating in a co-op program. Therefore, you can design a path that fits your schedule and goals. You do not need to complete a thesis or final oral exam to earn the MIE degree.

Online Master of Industrial Engineering

The Master of Industrial Engineering MIE distance education program is designed for working professionals. In particular, it serves practitioner-oriented individuals with undergraduate degrees in engineering, behavioral, physical or mathematical sciences. As a result, you can advance your education while continuing your career.
You must complete 31 credit hours to earn the degree. In addition, the program does not require a thesis. Therefore, you can focus entirely on coursework.

Master of Industrial Engineering / Master of Business Administration

Our dual MIE/MBA degree can be earned in two years. It helps you stand out in your industry. In addition, you gain skills that prepare you for leadership roles. Because the program emphasizes hands-on experiential learning, you build practical experience in more than one field.

Master of Science in Industrial Engineering

The Master of Science in Industrial Engineering (MSIE) degree gives you focused study in a specific area. In addition, you must complete a research thesis as part of the program. Because the degree emphasizes research, you build strong analytical and investigative skills. As a result, you prepare for careers in consulting, industry or government research.

Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering

The Ph.D. program is designed for outstanding students like you who are passionate about independent study and research. As a result, you will develop deep expertise in your chosen area.

Master of Science

To minor in industrial engineering as an MS student, you must select at least nine credit hours of ISE courses at the 500-level or 700-level.

Doctor of Philosophy

To minor in industrial engineering as a Ph.D. student, you must select at least nine credit hours of ISE courses at the 500-level or 700-level.
