What Qualities Make Good Faculty and Staff?
Care for Students
In the ISE Program, faculty members make sure students never feel alone during their academic journey. They guide, support and encourage students toward success both inside and outside the classroom. In addition, they create a welcoming learning environment where students feel valued, respected and motivated to grow. Faculty members also take time to understand each student’s goals, strengths and challenges. Their dedication comes from a strong desire to help students succeed in school, careers and life. As a result, students build confidence while developing meaningful relationships with faculty mentors.
Passionate About Teaching
ISE faculty members love teaching and want students to share that excitement for learning. Therefore, they bring energy, creativity and enthusiasm into every classroom experience. Their engaging teaching style helps students explore new ideas and better understand complex topics. In many classes, faculty members connect lessons to real-world engineering and business challenges. As a result, students see how classroom concepts apply to future careers and industries. Faculty members also encourage collaboration, problem-solving and critical thinking through hands-on learning experiences.
Expertise in the Subject
ISE faculty members bring deep knowledge and real-world experience to their teaching and research. Additionally, they stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies and new developments in the field. Many faculty members lead groundbreaking research projects and work closely with industry partners. Their expertise gives students valuable insights and practical skills for future careers in engineering, analytics and operations. As a result, students receive a strong, relevant education that prepares them for changing industries and global challenges.
Continuous Learning
ISE professors believe learning should continue throughout life, both personally and professionally. Therefore, they actively pursue research, training and professional development opportunities throughout their careers. Faculty members regularly attend conferences, publish research and collaborate with experts across many disciplines. By modeling a growth mindset, they encourage students to continue learning beyond graduation. Their example inspires students to adapt, grow and succeed in fast-changing industries and workplaces. As a result, students leave the program prepared to become lifelong learners and future leaders.
