Advanced Manufacturing

Come explore advanced manufacturing with NC State’s Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) program. You will join a team tackling real manufacturing problems using big data, robotics, automation and cutting-edge technology.

At NC State, you will learn to improve how things are made in industries like automotive, aerospace and high-tech products. In addition, you will use tools such as 3-D printing and nanomanufacturing.

Our work focuses on lean, adaptable operations that boost productivity in real factories. Moreover, our faculty and students apply modern processes to make manufacturing smarter and more efficient.

Through research, you will study both current and future manufacturing systems. For example, you might design automated systems that help workers and robots collaborate. Additionally, you might analyze complex production data to improve quality and reduce costs.

Advanced Manufacturing Facilities

The Center for Additive Manufacturing and Logistics (CAMAL)

You can also work with CAMAL, a leader in rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing research. At CAMAL, students and faculty explore biomedical implants, optimized aerospace parts, hybrid manufacturing and supply chain logistics.

Our labs give you hands-on experience with advanced machines like electron beam melting systems. In fact, CAMAL was an early adopter of this technology in the U.S., helping prepare you for high-impact careers.

If you want to build tomorrow’s manufacturing systems, research with us prepares you to lead, innovate and solve real challenges. Join ISE to make a difference today

Biomedical Manufacturing

Step into the next frontier of biotechnology at NC State ISE. Here, you prepare for a fast-growing and high-impact career. Moreover, you join engineers moving regenerative medicine from discovery to commercialization. As a result, your work can directly improve lives.

You collaborate with physicians, therapists and biotech professionals. In addition, you apply engineering tools to real medical challenges. For example, you may work in advanced 3-D modeling or bioinformatics. You might also study surgical machining or pharmaceutical production. Furthermore, you can explore image processing, physiological signal processing and biomechanics.

Our faculty and students use medical imaging, CAD and rapid prototyping to build solutions. Consequently, you can help create custom implants, prosthetic devices and surgical instruments. In fact, 3-D printing may help solve major health challenges. For instance, researchers are exploring ways to grow organs and tissue.

Through rapid prototyping, you produce biomedical models that help surgeons plan procedures. At the same time, you design custom biopolymer scaffolds for bone and organ tissue engineering. Therefore, you gain hands-on experience while advancing healthcare innovation.

If you want to engineer the future of medicine, you belong here.
