Academic Advising

ISE strives to provide quality and timely academic advising for our undergraduate students to help with career awareness, academic success and personal enrichment.

Last Updated: 03/16/2026 | All information is accurate and still up-to-date.

First, your academic advising team supports you with two types of advising during the semester. Specifically, you receive general advising and pre-registration advising. General advising helps you plan goals and stay on track. Meanwhile, pre-registration advising helps you choose courses, review requirements and prepare for the upcoming registration period.

General Academic Advising

First, you can meet with your academic advisor at any time during the school year. If you have questions about your curriculum, courses, study abroad programs or co-op programs, you should schedule an appointment. Moreover, when you talk with your advisor, you can plan ahead. As a result, you can make stronger and more informed academic decisions.

Pre-Registration Academic Advising

First, during the registration period, you have the option to meet with a main advisor. During this meeting, you focus on selecting courses for the upcoming semester. In addition, you review your progress and confirm you stay on track for graduation requirements. Finally, this meeting also helps you remove your advising hold.

The Advising Compact

As the student, you commit to:

  • Next, you keep up to date with university, college and department curriculum requirements.
  • In addition, you consult with academic advisors during each pre-registration period and at other times when needed.

In addition, when you check the latest information, you understand requirements and deadlines more clearly. Therefore, you can complete forms, prepare for advising meetings and make academic decisions with greater confidence.

As the advising team, we commit to:

  • Applying all university policies, department procedures and advising processes fairly and consistently.
  • Next, your advisors remain available for appointments at appropriate times and places.
  • In addition, your advisors help you follow proper procedures when you request exceptions.
  • Moreover, your advisors refer you to campus resources, such as special testing or counseling, when needed.
  • Then, your advising team reviews your requests promptly.
  • Also, your advisors release your advising hold within 72 business hours after your advising appointment.
  • Finally, your advisor documents your advising discussion in the SuccessGPS platform for future reference during individual appointments.

Pre-Registration Academic Advising

When Does Pre-registration Advising Begin?

First, you will receive an email from Deanna Cardamone through the ISE Undergrad Listserv at the start of each registration period. This message explains the steps you must complete to remove your advising hold.

In addition, the pre-registration period for the Fall semester begins after Fall Break. Similarly, the pre-registration period for the Spring semester begins after Spring Break. Therefore, you should review the email carefully and follow the instructions during that time.

The Pre-registration Advising Process

First, you should visit the Undergraduate Advising Moodle page to complete the steps required to remove your advising hold. By following the instructions on that page, you can complete the process correctly and on time.

ISE PRO TIP: If this is your first time visiting the page, you will need to enroll before you begin. Therefore, you should complete the enrollment step to access the advising materials and instructions.
